The Red Flags about Cat Heath Care

First, in order for your feline companion to be happy and contented, you need to provide them a home. Yes, it can be left to wander about your own house and treat it like their kingdom. But you have to make sure that the surrounding is safe. Do not hang about things that would cause injury and further mishaps to your cats.

Second, make sure that your cat gets the necessary nutrition that it needs. To do so, you have to give them only the best kind of cat food. The best will not necessarily mean expensive. You can ask your vet for recommendations given the amount that you can allot for this purpose.

And lastly, think about your cat health care. This is so vital because if you were caught unaware of a sudden incident, you may easily lose you beloved pet just because you didn\’t know what to do.

So know your cat. Observe it well. Know their usual interests, the way they eat, they way they interact with the other pets and also the people in your house. If you feel that something seems to be out of place, then call your vet immediately for advice.

So find a veterinarian nearest your place and get their contact information immediately. They are your lifeline whenever your cat\’s life seems to be in danger.

You will be the first judge if something seems to be wrong with your cats. Here are some indications.

Grooming Style

These creatures are known to be vain. They are always grooming themselves. If they are grooming too much on one side, they might be bugged by something like, yes, bug or fleas. The process may hurt them. So interrupt and act upon it.

Also beware if they are no longer cleaning up on their own. It may be a sign of depression. You also have to consult the vet about it if this happens.

Eating Style

If you know your cat very well, you will easily see if there are any changes to their eating habits. Don\’t let them go through the day without eating too much. This may be a symptom to something else. So this is also a good time to call on your vet.

The Behavior

If your cat is friendly and it all of a sudden becomes aloof, you need to raise the alarm level. This also goes with the way your cat walks. If it seems to be doing this thing just a bit too odd, it may be something to be concerned about.

As the owner, you need to be very cautious with everything that your cat does. You have to take note of their vowel elimination. Just like humans, they may sometimes suffer from diarrhea or the likes.

Although calling the vet is always the best choice for you to do, you can also search the web for quick solutions to minor problems. The Internet offers a vast resource for your every cat health care question. So take time to read some info and apply it on your own pets.

The Cat Care and Health Insurance Know How\’s

Many people love their pet so much they have them insured. Cat care and health insurance is not the same thing. The first is a must while the latter can be forgone.

In order to care for your cat, you must understand your pet as a pet. You have to be responsible once you have taken the steps to acquire a feline companion. There should be no going back. So think twice, thrice and a hundred of times before committing into becoming a parent to a pet.

Cats are special. They can see sharper than humans do. They can also smell a lot better. This is the reason why you need to arrange things in your home accordingly once you have decided that a cat will soon join in.

Do not let anything that may cause them harm lying around. This is the same concept that you must apply like when you have a child. You want to protect them. That is why you keep those harmful objects out, specifically the poisonous ones. You do not want to cause your own child and pet serious accidents.

You have to provide the right cat food for your pet. You cannot give them what you had for dinner. Your bodies and its requirements are not the same. So give them the food that is specifically made for them. This way, they will get all the necessary nutrition that they need.

So before you think about owning a cat, look over the prices of the food. It may take about $8 to $12 monthly to keep your cat purring happily. Can you afford it? You may have to make some adjustments with your lifestyle to be able to accommodate the need. Just think that it will all be worth it.

Recreation must also be given consideration when you own a cat. You cannot adopt one and think that it will be happy just by playing by itself. You have to find time to play with your pet and bond with it. In time, you will know what activities they enjoy. And so you will be able to make the necessary adjustments to make time for such activities.

Because of their strong sense of smell, budgeting must also be highlighted on the litter boxes of your cats. You have to give them clean and well-maintained ones. Your cat will not to their strut on an untidy litter box. Your regal baby cannot stand the stink. So be careful with how everything smells. What is okay with you may be abominable for your feline companion.

Finding the nearest veterinarian is also a must. You need them in cases when you think that something is not right with your cat. For this reason, you have to be very observant.

Yes, cats can groom themselves. But you have to help them in maintaining their teeth clean and strong. You don\’t want that factor to be the reason why your cat will be depressed on its old age. So develop a habit of cleaning their teeth through brushing, flossing and having a regular teeth check up with your vet.

Health Insurance

You can do without this. But if you really want to get one, see if your trusted vet is among the list of the recommended vets of your chosen insurance. You don\’t want to end up taking long trips just to be able to claim what the insurance promises to give.

It is better to hone your skills on cat care and health insurance can be put aside. But it all depends on you. There is nothing wrong with having one. Just make sure that you can afford it and it will not take toll on the monthly budget your family and feline friend require.

Cat Care And Your Home

Christopher Byrnes asked:

Cat care can make a big difference on the look and atmosphere of your home. When you provide great cat care, you are ensuring that your home will look and smell clean and welcoming to visitors, and will be a place that you enjoy relaxing in. If you neglect cat care, your home can start to feel more like a prison than like an oasis. A cat is meant to make your household a more pleasant place to be, because the love and affection that a cat provides, not to mention the entertainment and refreshing energy, sweeten any environment. However, if you aren’t providing adequate cat care, the joys of cat ownership can become buried underneath layers of odor and grime. Luckily, in just a few minutes every day, you can offer your pet the best possible cat care. Great cat care doesn’t require expense or a lot of time or effort, and it can have tangibly positive results when it comes to your home’s environment.

The overall impact of better cat care on your household atmosphere can be quite powerful because different aspects of cat care have many different effects on how your home feels. One important part of cat care has to do with hygiene and taking care of any messes that your cat creates. This side of cat care will keep your home smelling fresh and looking its best. Another part of cat care has to do with the love and affection that you give your cat. Showing your pet that they are safe in your presence and that they are loved is an important aspect of cat care that can have many different benefits.

Peace and quiet are two important parts of a relaxing atmosphere, and they are the core of a pleasant home environment. A cat’s plaintive mewling can add an air of anxiety or tension to your home’s atmosphere. Luckily, cat care can help you minimize this aspect of pet ownership. When you spend a lot of time making your cat feel safe and appreciated, it is less likely to whine or screech. Indirectly, cat care can actually help your furnishings and decorative items stay looking newer for longer. When you provide your cat with ideal cat care, it is less likely to indulge in destructive behaviors like scratching your furniture, climbing the drapes, and other activities that can take a toll on your home’s appearance.

Cat care is often a matter of routine, and can sometimes feel like a burden. When cat care feels like work, it is tempting to avoid it, or to procrastinate for day after day. Nobody looks forward to dealing with cat care issues like a messy litter box or scruffy fur that is just asking for a bath. However, changing your attitude towards cat care can make these tasks much more enjoyable. Every time you take a step towards a healthier, happier, or cleaner cat you are taking a step towards making your home a better place to be.

Cat Care Basics

Kelly Miller asked:

When my kids came home begging me to get them a cat, I had no idea what to expect or how to care for a cat. Before I relented, I did some research and found out that there are some cat care basics with which I needed to be familiar before we would bring a cat into the home. We had to make decisions about food, litter, cat furniture, toys, fleas, grooming, and vet care. It was not a decision to be taken lightly, but it was one we decided to take on.

Here is some of the information I uncovered doing my research before we brought our new cat, Tommy, into our home.

Cats need a specific diet. Not all cat foods are good at meeting the natural dietary needs of cats. You would think that if a manufacturer says a food is good for cats, it has to be good for cats. But determining whether or not a food fits the dietary needs of your cat is up to you. The manufacturer is trying to sell his product, so do your homework.

Dry foods have different health benefits and drawbacks than canned foods. I didn’t know that! Cats don’t need a lot of vegetable fillers in their diet. I didn’t know that either! Cats need a high-protein, high-animal fat diet. That sounded a bit off until I thought about it. Cats are carnivores in the truest sense of the word. They eat only other animals when they are in their natural habitat. Now I understand why I need to read labels and choose the diet that is best suited to Tommy’s natural needs.

Another area I looked into was what toys are best for a cat. I saw a lot of really cool, colorful, texture-rich toys in the pet store. They would be great! Any cat would have so much fun with such a toy. Not so. Cats are not completely color blind, but they do not make much distinction in colors. A colorful toy has little influence on its attractiveness to a cat.

I also thought a big ball of yarn would be fun until I found out that cats can ingest yarn and it embeds in the lining of their stomachs. That is not a scenario I wanted to know about personally! The cool crinkly toys I saw have had problems with the crinkly part coming out when the cat plays with it. Again, ingestion of the material can cause serious health risks. I had a lot of things to consider if I was going to have a cat and provide safe, fun toys for him to play with.

Do you know how many kinds of cat litter are on the market? Did you know some cats won’t use certain types of litter? Some of them are very expensive, and others have a more reasonable price tag, but while some cats enjoy the more expensive, others will only use the cheapest kind of litter. I was getting quite tired just thinking about how many experiments we might have to do if we brought a cat home. How much clean up was I willing to do if the cat didn’t like the litter I bought?

Cat furniture is another issue I researched. I know cats scratch, and I had heard that declawing is an unpleasant and unnecessary procedure. I wanted to know what my options were and how effective I could be in preserving my furniture and carpets. There is a large variety of options for furniture. There are textures cats prefer, along with structures that they enjoy. I learned that most important was to provide variety in any furniture I chose. I also learned that it is significantly cheaper (though requires an investment of time) to build my own.

Finally, I turned my thoughts to the physical health of a cat. I know worms can be a problem for a lot of cats. What I didn’t know was how easy they are to treat if you are diligent about keeping up with the general health of the cat. I also learned that there are things you can do to make your cat’s habitat less conducive to picking up worms. Cleanliness is important in the house as well as the yard!

And what about fleas? While fleas can be a problem, and they can cause some other health issues if they get out of control in a cat, they are also a minor problem if you are taking charge of your cat’s overall health. There are many monthly-use products that keep fleas at bay just by being faithful to giving them to your cat.

Ultimately, I learned a lot about taking care of a cat. My kids were asking me almost daily until I gave in and we brought Tommy home. I have been diligent about providing for his needs. He sees the vet on schedule. He has a healthy, protein-rich diet, he has toys that cannot hurt him, and we did finally find a litter he will use! He has quit scratching the furniture, and we are all enjoying having him in our home.

Be diligent in your research about cat care basics. If you will pay attention to your cat’s needs, you will be able to avoid illness, injury, and outrageous vet bills!

Cat Health Made Easy

Madeleine Innocent asked:

It’s probably true to say that most people who enjoy the company of cats in their home are particularly conscious of providing good cat health care.

Optimising good cat heath care will not only provide your cat with the potential of a long life, but also of a healthy, carefree one, too. It’s very satisfying to see your cat happy, healthy and enjoying life.

What is the single most important thing you can do to ensure the your cat enjoys the best health?

Is it immunising your cat against all the common or known feline diseases?

Is it keeping your cat indoors, away from potential hazards such as fighting or car accidents?

Is it having them sterilised?

Perhaps it’s in keeping their sexuality entire?

Could it be ensuring their teeth are clean?

What about providing a loving, secure and safe home?

There are probably as many opinions about what’s important in cat health care as there are people!

Important though some of the above are, I don’t think any of them are as important to optimise good cat health as something that they do every day.

Eating!

Diet and nutrition are of top priority in maintaining the health of your cat. To my mind, this is the single most important aspect in maintaining anyone’s health., not just for your cat

You may be feeding your cat a top cat food, recommended by your veterinarian. You may feel that, with all the advertising, proprietary brands are the best cat food. But are they?

We all know that advertising makes hollow promises, as the advertiser is more concerned with making money than giving you the facts.

But surely you can trust your veterinarian. Can’t you?

Did you know that the top pet food manufacturers financially contribute to veterinary colleges? I may be old fashioned, but to me that means the colleges aren’t completely impartial. After all, you don’t bite the hand that feeds you.

I suspect, that since you have reached this article, you’re searching for another way to improve your cats’ health, other than that recommended by your veterinarian – which is invariably everyone’s first choice.

Contrary to popular belief, and to most vets who sell processed food, it is the processed food itself which wreaks such havoc with cat health. Cats evolved by hunting animals and consuming most of it immediately.

Their digestive system has evolved to cope with this. Cooked, processed, preservatives and the very low grade meat by-products which are the basis for the majority of proprietary cat food on the market, is the single, most damaging factor in the deteriorating health of your cat.

If your cat gets all his nutrition from raw food, you will see a remarkable transformation in a matter of days.

But you need to get the balance right. You need to get the quantity and variety right for a good, all round balanced diet. Otherwise you could run the very real risk of one or more deficiencies. A serious deficiency can be fatal.

And you need to know about the de-toxing effect a change to a good diet entails.

When I first started introducing raw food to my cats, it was fraught with difficulties. I made mistake after mistake. After studying and applying various other therapists ways, I finally worked out what worked and what didn’t. What they said was right and what just couldn’t work.

So I wrote a book about cat health, based on my own experiences. I wish I’d had it before I embarked on that particular adventure. It would have saved me so much anxt.

When you address this so very important aspect of cat health, the spin off is enormous – professional therapist fees are cut back drastically.

Is there anyone alive who doesn’t love a win-win situation?

Feline Health: Caring for Your New Kitten – What’s First?

Michael D. Rosenthal asked:

When it comes to household pets, there are very few that bring as much excitement and joy than bringing home a new kitten. Just remember that you will be responsible for this pet’s care and health for an average of 10-15 years. Suffice it to say, felines make for very special and unique pets and their uniqueness is the key to knowing how to care for them properly. Their needs are the key to working with your veterinarian so that your new kitten will have the best care possible and be a member of your family for years to come.

Initially, when you first bring the new kitten into your home, there are issues that need to be addressed immediately. Obviously, if you have decided to have a cat for a pet, you have accepted the responsibilities of providing the following:

· food

· grooming

· proper veterinary care

· shelter

And let’s not forget lots of TLC and affection. In return for all the love, money, and time that we spend on them and with them, we are rewarded with a content companion that is affectionate and healthy.

The Adjustment Period

First and foremost, you’ll need to put in some due diligence as you prepare your home for the new family member. Addressing the kitten’s needs is paramount because they will first require your patience as they adjust to their new surroundings. By the same token, you will need to adjust to them now being a family member. Additionally, if you have children and other pets in your home, there will most likely be some adjustment issues in those arenas as well.

It is necessary that you ease the kitten through this adjustment period, especially when there are young children around, as well as other pets. In addition to supervising your children when they are playing with the new kitten, you should teach them how to handle the kitten with the utmost care and respect.

The Kitten’s Basic Needs

There are certain basic resources that the new kitten will need specifically, food and water. Initially, it is a good idea to provide them with their own private food and water bowls. Once they have integrated well with the other pets, a single feeding and watering station should be the norm. However, until that time arises, keeping them separated from other animals in the house (especially dogs) is the best idea.

If you haven’t chosen a veterinarian, then do it now. Besides the medical issues, your veterinarian will be able to recommend a proper diet for the kitten as well. Where the kitten’s food and water are concerned, it is imperative that they have water at all times and that you clean their food and water bowls regularly and thoroughly.

The next order of business is their litter box. Make sure that it is situated in a quiet yet easily accessible location and that it is not too tall for them to get in and out of. Seeing as how there are a multitude of choices in the marketplace, you may find this somewhat challenging. Just remember that cats normally prefer very fine-grained litter when selecting one for your kitten. Also, the clumping kinds will make your job of cleaning out the litter box on a daily basis a lot easier. Additionally, the box should be completely, disinfected, emptied, and refilled with fresh litter on a regular basis.

Cat Teeth Care Can Save a Heart!

Sheri Davis Collins asked:

We all know we need to keep our cat’s teeth clean to prevent widespread illness and infections, right?  But just how do we do this peacefully, without undue stress on ourselves and our pet?

My cats have been trained since kittens to allow me to gently wipe their teeth with a piece of clean gauze every 2 days.

A neighbor’s cat had dental problems that were left untreated because she could not afford it. The pet succumbed to bacterial infection that affected its heart.  She was devastated.

Dental disease affects the teeth as well as bloodstream, carrying bacteria throughout the animal’s body, which negatively affects its liver, kidneys, heart and lungs.

As a result, I decided to do all I could to ensure that in between annual dental visits I would give the best at home teeth carepossible. I never realized dental care for cats is so important.

I knew they wouldn’t allow me to use a toothbrush, however small it might be.

Therefore, I began using a dental spray, in its liquid form in an eye dropper, that was much easier to administer. It has no side effects, human grade ingredients and almost tasteless. It actually dissolves the tartar and keeps their gums healthy.  I was desperate to try anything because their tartar build up was phenomenal in such a short time.

They have an annual dental check up. However the build up was always at stage 2 or 3 and would cost me $350 to $500 each.  I had to do something to keep the vet bill down.

I had no idea I could buy a product that helped decrease tartar and dental expense.I don’t want to take a chance that my being unable to afford dental care would adversely affect my pets.

There are some dry foods that purport its advantage in assisting to remove tarter.  However some cats, like one of mine, cannot eat dry food because of urinary tract issues.  So having an alternative available that doesn’t require brushing is a definite plus.

In summation, proper teeth care at home can save your cat’s heart, kidneys and lungs.

Dog Health Care Article: How Your Dog Gets Fleas and How to Get Rid of Them

April 10, 2011 by

Terrie Simpson asked:

In this article, “How You Dog Gets Fleas And How To Get Rid Of Them”, we will discuss the methods by which your dog can become infested with fleas. In addition, we will discuss a bit about the life cycle of fleas and how flea and tick treatments can stop the flea life cycle dead.

Fleas are those nasty little insects that periodically infect our cats, dogs and homes. Fleas feed on the blood of our pets. They can irritate their skin not only from the bite and skin infections, but also some pets are allergic to fleas.

Fleas are the most common cause of skin problems in dogs and cats. If you notice your dog scratching and chewing the back half of its body, check for fleas around the base of the tail, the back side of the hind legs or the dogs stomach.

No matter how clean our homes are, our dogs can encounter fleas on their daily excursions outside. They then bring this insect home on their fur and the cycle of infestation starts. The adult flea lays eggs which drop off the dog all over the house: in the pets bed, on couches, in the carpet, around the baseboards, practically anywhere your dog is allowed to roam in the house and car. These eggs hatch, become larvae, and develop into cocoons where they develop into adult fleas, and the cycle begins again.

There are many over the counter preparations which can kill the flea, but do nothing to stop the cycle. Because there are still eggs, larvae and cocoons around the pets living environment. Through your veterinarian you can obtain either a topical or oral preparation. One method kills the fleas before they lay the eggs and the other kills the eggs that have been laid on your pet. Both are equally safe and harmless to the pet and its family. Both methods require monthly dosages of medication on a permanent basis to prevent re-infestation. Your veterinarian will prescribe the best medication for your particular pet and the dosage will be according to your pets weight. As your pet grows, the dosage will change. Not only will your pet and home be flea-free, but the chances for your pet being infected with tapeworms will also decrease.

Consult your veterinarian as soon as possible to start a monthly routine to save your pet the irritations caused by fleas.

Why Pets Deserve the Best Pet Care in Wesley Chapel, Hillsborough County, Pasco County and Tampa 33613

Business Local Listings asked:

According to a survey done by the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association in 2008, some 63 percent of households in the United States have pets. This includes a lot of households in Wesley Chapel, Hillsborough County, Pasco County and Tampa 33613. This also includes various types of pets such as dogs, cats, rabbits, rodents, reptiles, birds and fish. There are many reasons why people love pets. These are the same reasons why all pets deserve the best pet care at home and the best veterinary care available from veterinarians in an animal clinic or animal hospital.

Everyone who has had a pet has experienced the unconditional affection that a pet gives its owner and likewise elicits from its owner. Aside from this, pets have been known to act as teachers, helpers, healers and therapists to people.

It is always said that giving a child a pet to care for will give the child a sense of responsibility. Much more than this, though, the child learns about unconditional love, empathy, loyalty, sharing and nurturing. This leads to the child learning how to care for other people, as well. Kindness to animals is eventually translated to kindness to other people. Caring for a pet naturally gives way to such learning which is crucial to the development of the child’s personality. The pet has, therefore, become the child’s teacher.

Pets have also long been used as helpers, especially for people with disabilities. Dogs, particularly, can be specially trained to assist the blind and the hearing impaired, acting as their eyes, ears and even hands. The dogs help people with disabilities do everyday tasks and functions they would not be able to do by themselves. Often, these dogs even save lives by immediately detecting changes in the body language, behavior or even odor of their human partners and promptly doing what they have been trained to do to get to safety or call for help. In fact, dogs that perform such functions are no longer classified as pets because they are so much more than pets.

Pets are also natural healers and therapists. When people care for pets and walk them, groom them and pet them everyday, the physical activity do the owners good, improving their heart condition, boosting their blood circulation and decreasing the rate of bone tissue loss. Blood pressure and cholesterol levels are lowered. Studies have actually shown how patients who have had cardiac arrest have better chances of survival if they are caring for a dog. Stress and depression as well as loneliness and feelings of isolation are alleviated and the patients become more relaxed and happier with renewed sense of purpose and fulfillment. This results in better overall physical and mental health.

With all the joy, love and other benefits pets provide their owners, these pets only crave their owner’s company and affection in return. More than that, though, we should be responsible for their well being, too, and give them the right food, shelter and holistic pet care.

All pets in Wesley Chapel, Hillsborough County, Pasco County and Tampa 33613 – including dogs, cats, rabbits, rodents, reptiles, birds and fish – truly deserve not only tender loving pet care at home but also the best veterinary clinic with veterinarians who are both compassionate and highly competent in providing preventive health care, routine medical check ups and even emergency treatment. One example would be Long Lake Animal Hospital which also provides laboratory analysis, medical diagnostics and surgical procedures including laser surgery, as well as pet boarding, pet grooming and pet supplies. Make sure your pets get all the pet care and nurturing they deserve.
